Install Rooms as an app

You can add the Rooms web app (app.rooms.engineering11.com) to your computer or phone so it opens in its own window with its own icon — like a native app. It's completely optional: Rooms works the same in a normal browser tab, and installing changes nothing about how it behaves or who can see your documents.

Good to know: installing doesn't download anything from an app store and doesn't create a new account — you still sign in with your work email. Updates arrive automatically; there's nothing to re-install.

Install it

First, open app.rooms.engineering11.com and sign in. Then, depending on your device:

Computer (Chrome or Edge): click the install icon in the address bar — a small screen-with-a-down-arrow on the right-hand side — then Install. (Or use the browser menu ⋮ → Install Engineering11 Rooms….)
Android (Chrome): tap the menu ⋮ → Install app (sometimes shown as Add to Home screen).
iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. (On iPhone this is always done from the Share menu — there's no automatic prompt.)

Once installed, launch Rooms from your dock, taskbar, Start menu, or home screen — it opens straight to the app in its own window.

I dismissed the "Install as an app" bar — how do I install now?

No problem. That in-app bar is just a convenience, and dismissing it only hides the bar — it never blocks installing. Your browser's own install option is always available, using exactly the steps above:

Computer: the install icon in the address bar, or ⋮ menu → Install…
Android: ⋮ menu → Install app
iPhone / iPad: Share → Add to Home Screen

Don't see an install option on a computer? It appears once the page has fully loaded and you're signed in. Make sure you're on app.rooms.engineering11.com (not a document link), reload once, and check the right-hand side of the address bar. Installing needs Chrome or Edge on desktop; Firefox doesn't offer app install.

Staying up to date

You never re-install to get the latest version. When we ship an update, the app notices and shows a small “✨ A new version of rooms is available” banner with a Refresh to update button — tapping it loads the new version. This works whether you're in a browser tab or the installed app.

Computer (installed app or browser): the banner appears on its own — the app checks for updates every few minutes, whenever you switch back to its window, and on any action you take. Just click Refresh to update.
iPhone / iPad (installed app): the banner appears the next time you open or switch back to the app, or as soon as you do anything in it. (iOS pauses background timers for installed apps, so the check runs when you return to Rooms rather than while it sits idle — you'll still see it right away.) Fully closing the app and reopening it also picks up the latest version automatically.

Don't want to update right now? Dismiss the banner with the ✕ — nothing breaks, and you'll be offered the update again later. There's never anything to download or re-install.

Uninstalling

On a computer, open the installed app and use its window menu → Uninstall. On a phone, remove the icon like any other app. Uninstalling only removes the shortcut — your documents and account are untouched.
